Hope For Me Yet

Let me be right up front with a certain fact. I've been having a difficult time lately, and it's been affecting my blogging. Many of you have noticed, and have sent me a variety of comments and emails, all of which I appreciate very much. It's interesting to see which of you try to soothe and comfort me, encourage me, motivate me, or holler at me. I'm not sure which method works best, but it doesn't matter. I miss my bloggy friends, and I miss blogging when I don't do it.

The problem is that I don't seem to have much to say. I know what you're thinking - that hasn't stopped me in the past - but it is hampering my creativity this time. I have decided though, that I am going to operate under the "fake it till you make it" system. I will keep on blogging, even if the subject matter is lame, until I start to feel better.

Speaking of making me feel better, I had a lovely visit with my dear friend Connie last week, and she invited me to go to a play with her yesterday. I LOVE the theater. When I was in high school, I was involved heavily in drama and music, but I haven't done much with it lately, even though I have been lucky enough to live in areas with thriving community theater groups.

I do go to see productions whenever I can, and I always enjoy them. I figure that if people are going to get all dressed up, memorize a bunch of lines, build sets, learn songs and perform for me - I'm going to appreciate the hell out of it. One of the high points of my life was the one and only time I went to a Broadway show (The Producers). I almost fainted from the excitement.

Anyway, the play yesterday was really terrific (Over the River and Through the Woods), and I really liked it. I laughed, I cried. It really hit home for me with its themes of family, food and faith (three things I really believe in). Connie, who's involved with the local theater group and is producing another show in June, invited me to come and help out at auditions this week, and perhaps find something I could do to help with the show. She thinks if I get out and do things, it'll be good for me.

She's right. So, I'm going to get back out there, into the world, and see if I can get my groove back. Hey, it worked for Stella. I wonder if Taye Diggs will be at the auditions...

I am taking my adult daughter in May to the Ogunquit Playhouse to do a rerun of "Tits and Ass"(Chorus Line) We went together when she was much younger. I am sooo looking forward to it. I do believe that fake it til you make it is a good idea. Good luck hon and be good to yourself!

You BETTER come to auditions. And help out with the show, too!

I'm a little prejudiced, as community theatre is my hobby as well, but YES! GET OUT AND GET INVOLVED! I've found great friends through the theatre, and it's a wonderful outlet for so many things -- creativity, being a part of a group effort, bringing joy to others, and learning new things top the list for me. And not necessarily in that order.
The friendships I've gained are some of the most important relationships in my life (I'm single, no kids). I need more than one hand to count the relationships (marriages, long-term dating, co-habitation) that I personally saw start at the theatre. My father's marriage just hit 20 years, and it started at the community theatre. There's just something powerful about working under pressure of deadline with people who bring their best and share it with you. OK, I'm in hell week of a production I'm directing, so it's my focus right now, but I stand by everything I've said. GET OUT AND DO IT!

... and that includes trying out for me!

Let me just clarify, Andrew - I am coming to HELP, not to AUDITION. Unless you need me to audition to be your assistant or a prompter or a stage hand.

Getting out and about sounds like a great idea. I should take your advice...

Boy, I can totally relate. I've decided it's a seasonal thing. We're lying fallow, which is what all things do in winter, gathering our strength before bursting into bloom. Sounds like getting out and about might be just the infusion of sunlight you need.

This weekend I was thinking about you and your situation, etc. I have decided that you need to WRITE A BOOK! Seriously!!!! I know right now you are having a difficult time putting thoughts on a blog... but ME, you have such a great writing style and an amazing story! Really.... write a book!!!!

God, I hope Taye Diggs is at the audition for you. Then we'd ALL get our groove back. :)

And it sounds like your friend Connie just gave you several upcoming blog topics!!

And for the record...I think we all get writers block occasionally. I, too, sometimes wonder when inspiration will strike. It usually comes when I'm pounding the keyboard with nothing interesting to say.

I'm glad you're going to fake it, though. I'd miss your updates. :)

Great to see your back in Bloggerville. I know I speak for many when I say "WE MISSED YOU!"

I must also add that I am sitting here green with envy that a.) you went to the theater and saw a live performance and b.) that you get to become involved in a new production.

As a part of my journey to reach out and help others, I had wanted to do set design or help the stage crew with their annual production along with my oldest son, but no one ever got back to me.

So because of this post, I am going to put that back on my list of things to do with Birdie. I know it will be a blast for both of us.

Have a ball, ME, and enjoy the outlet. It just might be the "fix" you need for that awful funk.

Hugs ~ Lisa

I have been feeling a bit the same way (for different reasons) and I got out to the dog park this weekend which is something I love and the dogs and boy love too but we haven;t done it lately because I have been lazy and mopey. Getting out helps a lot.

I've been reading your comments on other blogs for quite a while - and I'm glad I came to visit! I'll be coming back here.

I'm also biased since I have a background in community theatre... but I agree that you really should get out and get involved. I met my best girlfriend in theatre. I met my best friend in theatre. I met my husband in theatre. Most of my most important relationships were born in the theatre!

And if Andrew's involved... all the more reason to DO IT!

I think this is a GREAT idea! I love theatre too, I got to play around with it when I was in high school and college but not since then.

However, I absolutely love to watch stage plays. There is something exciting about the stage, and the smells and the sound of playing to a live audience.

Go for it M.E.

My daughter would love to see the Producers on stage, it is her all time favorite production!

keeping my finger crossed for the Taye Diggs thing! I'm working in the same place you are..stuck. I just can't seem to shake this sadness/mood/whateveryouwanttocallit. I know getting out will and does help but i'm grounded in other ways...still can't drive..so the feelings remain. I hope you shake it soon M.E., i'll keep checking in. I love it when you post even if you having 'nothing' to say :D

"The Producers" was the first 'real' play I have ever seen. I loved it. I saw it in Canada.

Hang in there. :) I will keep you in my prayers.

I like children's theater. My daughter's gearing up to play Mrs. MacAfee in Bye Bye Birdie, next month. Last year, she was JoJo in The Seussical, and I have to say I thought it was the best I've ever seen; the kids were fantastic. Sounds like a fun friend to hang out with :)

I think getting out and being involved in a theatre production is a wonderful idea. It will be fulfilling and a lot of fun! I love theatre and miss being involved in it.

Don't worry about blogging, we love what ever you have to say on here. Remember this is YOUR blog. You don't have to entertain us, do it because YOU want to. We will all be here no matter what. Hey, if I can talk about my mucus, you can certainly talk about anything you want. :)

I'm even lamer, I just almost never blog and when I do, I almost never hop over and read anyone else's. It's like I'm spending 2009 in some sort of time vortex or something and I just never have enough time in a day... The play sounds fun. And, I like your titles :)
