Spring Fever

It’s time to get rid of all the weird stuff that rolls around in my head all during the week. I present this Friday Fragments post in conjunction with the great folks over at Half Past Kissin’ Time. Mrs. 4444 lives there, and she's a scream! Pop over and read what her husband had to say about their daughter's sleepover birthday party. Classic. Best one-liner of the day.

I had a great time out with my college friends on Wednesdays. We went to Chili’s, which is a restaurant I had never been to before, but I admired how much fun everyone is always having there in the TV commercials. As it turned out, we had just as much fun as the folks in the ad campaign, but it didn’t have much to do with the restaurant. The food was okay, definitely not spectacular, but it didn’t matter. What we need in a dinner location is: decent food, refillable drinks, wait staff that doesn’t bug us too much, and business that’s slow enough so they don’t care if we hang around for three hours. Girls Night Out is all about the Girls, and not so much about the Out.

I got the latest James Bond movie from Netflix – since I missed it when it was in the theater – but I haven’t watched it yet. I’m not all that excited about it. I’ve been a Bond fan since I was a kid, but I have very strong opinions on just exactly who makes a good 007 and who does not. My first Bond flicks were the Roger Moore ones – out in the theaters - which I liked just fine. Then I discovered the Sean Connery Bond, and fell in love. He was the swagger-y, smirking, completely male spy, and I adored him. Still do. Of course, then Pierce Brosnan took over the role, and I fell into lust. He is, without a doubt, the sexiest Bond ever, and I love everything about him, including the updated, more politically correct version of 007 (after all, the Brosnan Bond came with new, nifty special effects!). Unfortunately, I’m not buying the new guy. He’s blond, for one thing. He’s not sarcastic enough (at least not in the first movie). He’s missing that special something – I think it’s attitude – and I don’t want to be his Bond girl.

Speaking of Netflix, I have been making a list of movies I want to see someday. I compiled the list after Yahoo put out their Top 100 Movies Everyone Should See list. I also went through AFI’s top 100, and their top 10 from each category (musicals, action films, comedies, etc.). I ended up with a list of about 40 movies that I want to see, or think that I should see, anyway. Ten or so of those are movies I’ve seen before, but it was so long ago, I want to see them with my new, grown-up eyes. If I accomplish everything I am supposed to do by mid-afternoon today, I’m going to cross one off: The Maltese Falcon. I know I saw this when I was a kid, but I don’t remember much about it, and I’m looking forward to rewarding myself for having made it through another week.

I might even take my laptop out onto the deck and enjoy the great outdoors with my movie. It is supposed to be 60 degrees here today. We’ve been in spectacular weather mode here all week, but the brisk winds have finally gone and we can soak up the sun without getting an eyeful of sand. I think Old Man Winter has finally lost his grip and slunk away, leaving us a little battered, but ready to embrace Spring. I swear I heard a collective sigh from the Northeast.

I have that list on my blog! All 100. I've seen most of them. Some I wish I hadn't. And, like any best-of list, it's lacking.

Still a fun thing to look at though...

I think it's supposed to be even warmer than 60 - closer to upper
60's I think!

I thought I was the only person who didn't like the new 007. He leaves me colder than those long ago early morning walks from the hill over to Lendyl Gym!

You know who I think would make a good 007? (although he would have to work on the British accent). The new grown up Ben Affleck. Just my opinion, anyway.

PS Thanks for calling me a girl! You made my day. :)

I'm impressed...you are organized with your "Movies - To See" list.
When it comes to seeing movies I am unorganized with what I want to watch, therefore end up with some pretty bad viewing!
I'm glad you and the girls had a great night out! Sounds like fun!
Love you!

OK...Chili's southwestern eggrolls (an appetizer) are one of my most favorite dishes!! (And I used to work in food pr...so I know saying you love chain food is considered embarassing in some circles...but I can't help it. I love them!)

Enjoy your pretty weather. It's supposed to be gorgeous here too.

Now you've inspired me to make a movie list...then I can shuffle it out of my head and clear the spot for a longer book list.

If this weather is teasing me, I am going to be incredibly pissed off. Just be warned.

I kind of like the new Bond guy.

I love Netflix, but I never seem to have time to watch them these days. I would like to see that list, though (both the 100 people should see, and yours). I loved Sean Connery, too, in an "older guy" kind of way. Thanks for your kind words :)

I get to feel quite inferior faced with these lists, but your remarks RE 007 cheered me up no end. I've also been catching up on missed posts on your blog, so all-in-all, a very happy time! Keep up the good work.

Our weather is so weird this year. It was 73 yesterday and supposed to top that slightly today...then rain and 40's and 50's for a few days. I'm ready for some steady weather.

"I'm looking forward to rewarding myself for making it through another week." AMEN, SISTER! Thus, this comment.

I love ya and miss ya and am thinking of ya; don't know what else to say, except...I don't see "it" slowing down anytime soon! EEEK! And...

I recently received the cutest card I've ever seen in my life; and I will treasure it forever. I am in serious awe of the talented person who made it, and in even more serious awe of the thoughtful, caring person who sent it. That they are one and the same is good... :). I find myself wanting to spend a weekend with this person, learning to make cards like that because they bring instant sunshine to the person on the receiving end. Thanks, Mary Ellen!

Hiyas Mary Ellen!
Sorry I haven't been by to visit lately! I liked Roger Moore as 007 too, buy my dad liked Sean Connery so I got to like him in the role too! Not too down with Pierce Brosnan playing the role though and haven't seen the new 007 flick yet...let us know how it was!

Sean Connery is the one and only Bond. Period. Although Pierce Brosnon is awesome in the Thomas Crowne Affair. :)
