Born to Run

I don't have much to say today, so I thought I'd share some photos from Alex's new favorite way to cause me to have a heart attack. This is the exciting sport of lacrosse - a word which means: man-invented excuse to whack other people with sticks.

This is the face-off - or whatever you call it - at the beginning of the game. Weirdest position in which to begin a game I've ever seen. Alex is on the left, in green shorts and white jersey.

Alex is number 15 - see his cute ponytail? One of the other lacrosse mothers (who doesn't know me) said "That number 15 needs a hair cut!" I just laughed. She's welcome to her opinion.

See? Whacking each other with sticks. That's what the whole game is all about.

One of the things I don't like about this game is that you can't see his handsome face. Although, I do appreciate the helmet protection. He gets hit in the head about 10 times per game.

Why is there only one of him and about a million of them? I don't care if a bunch of them ARE standing on the sidelines. Still - where are the rest of the Vikings?

His position is called Midi - which covers the whole field. They always put him in this spot, usually center midi, because he runs. He's the fastest sprinter on the team. Now, if he can learn to hang onto the ball when he's running...

Such a physical game. It really does give me heart palpitations. Every time he leaves the field, I realize I've been holding my breath and clenching all my stomach muscles.

My favorite play of the game - Alex steals the ball and runs it all the way into the offensive zone. That's my boy.

You are such a supportive mom! I would find other things that I would just HAVE to take care of while he was playing! And yes, of course I would feel a little guilty about it.

I would totally cheat and grab on to his ponytail if I was on the opposing team. It's almost like he's taunting them. PULL MY TAIL, I DARE YOU!!

well, it's a good abdominal workout for you then...

seriously tho, the Iroquois invented the game to get their warriors ready for battle...it's basically war where you don;t actually get to kill the other guy...and they played it with no protection!!!!

Almost as good as watching a puppy run! (sorry.)

I honestly am going to have Google Lacrosse and figure out how it's played and why the players like it so much...

What a good Mom you are!

My 11 year old played some version of lacrosse in PE last week, and came home gung ho on one day being on the high school's new lacrosse team, and all I could think about was the beating involved! I shudder to think!

Nut came home from school a couple weeks ago and asked me if he could play Lacrosse, to which I quickly replied "NO!", but only because he already plays baseball.

So I aked him why he wanted to play Lacrosse and he aid "because Mr. K said I'm really good at it!" To which I replied, "Well that doesn't surprise me because you're naturally good at every sport you try."

Then, last week, he asked me if he could start golfing again, and then just yesterday he asked me if he could play tennis...

Do it ever end with that Nut!!!!

My neighbor's son also plays. I had no idea it was such a physical game! They must be in wonderful shape. I happen to like his ponytail:)

My uncle used to coach this crazy sport at Michigan State. Once it is in your blood, it is there forever! Just keep trying to breathe during the games!

My Mum (born in 1909!) used to play lacrosse at school. It sounded such a genteel game while the referee was looking and like a bloodsport when the referee couldn't see! She was a a real Lady and yet she loved it!!
