Just My Imagination

We’re back to our regular presentation of Friday Fragments – a random collection of things that occur to me during the week, too insignificant for their own post, but gathered here nonetheless. I join the great folks at Half Past Kissin’ Time in this endeavor.

* Thanks to those who expressed concern for Alex, who got hurt in his lacrosse game on Tuesday. It turns out it was merely a large contusion (which is big doctor talk for bruise, I think) on his hip. Unfortunately, it was located in the place where all your leg muscles originate, so moving was very painful for a couple of days. He’s feeling a bit better, and plans to participate in the game on Friday. Me? I’m planning to take tranquilizers.

* After my ill-fated experience with elastic and underwire on Tuesday, I was motivated to actually throw away the offending underwear. Of course, the minute I tossed it, I started worrying about what I was going to do the next time I’m behind on laundry.

* Why is it that the lawn goes from brown and dead to lush, foot-tall greenery in the blink of an eye? I think the major problem is that it’s been raining every day, which makes the lawn grow, but we can’t mow in the rain. By the time it stops raining, I may need to employ a hay combine.

* You know how they play sad music during the touching parts of a movie? I always wonder if it would still be sad if they played happy music? Picture it – the character is lying on his deathbed, and in the background you hear “Wake Me Up Before You Go Go” or “I’m so excited, and I just can’t hide it….” Personally, I think it would change the whole mood.

* Some of you know that I’m fascinated with true crime. I read books about it, watch documentaries about it – it’s kinda sick, I know, but I can’t help it. What you may not know is that I am equally fascinated by polygamy. I’ve read several books on the subject – mostly written by women who escaped the horrible existence in which they were living. The whole idea of this entire culture, complete with the brainwashing that accompanies it, is just mesmerizing to me. I can’t help but admire these women who overcome almost insurmountable odds to free themselves and their children. Their stories really are a testament to their strength and faith. The one I’m reading now is called ‘Daughter of the Saints.’

* I sent my birthmother a Mother’s Day card. I debated it (mentally) for a couple of weeks, but finally, I just did it. I picked out a simple, basic card – hope your day is pleasant, that kind of thing – and sent it, with no note, just my signature. Again, as I do so often lately, I regretted it almost immediately. I don’t want to pressure her unfairly, and I have sent her two letters already. Obviously, since she hasn’t responded, she’s just not ready, and may never be. I am determined not to become a stalker. It’s just that I haven’t had anyone to send a mother’s day card to for almost 10 years. And I wanted to acknowledge her on this first Mother's Day since I found out who she is. Regardless of how she feels about me, I’m grateful to her. See how I can rationalize anything? One of my many talents.

Don't look now but I think the sun is shining. If you need me, I'll be outside with a machete, trying to hack my way through my backyard...

ME...don't give up on your birth Mom. Does she have a new family that doesn't know about you? Glad to hear your son is doing better. Thanks for stopping by.

I know exactly what you mean, I swear the grass grew 6 inches overnight, and I KNOW those dandelions weren't there 2 hours ago!

Your Friday Fragments are very interesting.
One thing I have mixed emotions over is the fact that my life is like an open book. It's horrible on one hand cause there are probably times I should keep my mouth shut, but then there are times, like when I told my daughters that they had a brother. I couldn't not tell them. That way when we did find each other I didn't hide away for the fear of how they would take it. All of my kids, including my son are just intrigued with each other. I hope your birth mom finds a way to open up so that all of you can start some dialogue. I think sending the Mother's Day card was great! It's non threatening, don't worry about it.
I'm glad that Alex will be okay. Scary that he got hurt in the first place!
I hope your weekend is great!

Our lawn is a mess. I can't even go into it without working up some major anxiety about the way it looks.

I think it's good to keep your bio-mom aware of you - a simple card a couple of times a year to know that you are still open to her when and if she is ready.

sweet acknowledgment and if it did your heart good then don't worry about it. Hopefully your encouragment and love will help it all work out

I've always wondered the same thing about sad scenes and happy music! I think happy music should be played at every funeral, too.

Your rationalization about the card is very sound.

Now I'm headed back to your blog to see what I missed about elastic and underwires.

It's definitely raining a lot here. Had to double mow on Sat. and I'll have to double mow again tomorrow!

I too love both those kinds of books, plus anything medical related.I have read the book you are reading too.

and on the card, she can choose ot ignore it but you did what felt right for you.

I am secretly facinated by polygamy, too. Although watching Big Love occasionally probably doesn't give me a realistic glimpse into it. :) I think it's lovely what you did for mother's day...and I did read your post to Brandon. It made me cry...of course it did.

I, too, hope you have a wonderful mother's day. you really deserve it.

And I won't even comment on the shot elastic and underwire I'm going through right now!

I am fascinated by true crime too... I love to watch cold case files, etc. My husband always asks me if I'm planning to "take him out" or something. Crazee.

I really respect you for sending your birth mom a card. That must be a difficult situation. :) Hang in there...hopefully she'll come around!

Have a great weekend!

I, too, have a fascination with true crime... We watch everything from cops to cold cases and all in between. As for polygamy, I think what is good for the gander should be good for the goose, but then I would be thrown out of the church if I were in it for thinking such thoughts... Just one more flaw in another organized religion in my opinion. You know, one to clean the house and cook, one to tend the yard, one to get wild and crazy with and one to support me in the custom I'd like to be supported... I don't think that's asking too much, do you?

I don't think you are being stalker-ish to send a Mother's Day card. It was generic and she is a mother.

I like this segment, as I hadn't seen one like it before. I'm glad you sent your birthmother a card - at least if she comes around, she knows you r thinking of her!

Hey you. I am still here. A little more nucking futs than usual, but still here. I blogged. That tells the tale. I am too exhausted to repeat the whole sordid mess. BWAHA??!??

I miss you like crazy. Don't give up on me yet. I really like "nucking futs." :)

I wish it were Easter this weekend. I could hide entire chickens in my yard, not just eggs.
I read a polygamy book a few weeks ago, can't remember the name right off but it was a true story about a young girl in Warren Jeffs group. The things those girls go through make me sick.

Oh the sad music in movies is so true. If I mute the tv I never cry!

Oh, it would sooo totally change the whole entire movie if they changed the music!!! Imagine Alfred Hitchcock's "Psycho" without any music...totally different movie! :0

lol i made sure to tell my sister that she is a great aunt and made sure I DID NOT mention telling our mother that she is a great grandmother... but I sure debated it... sigh... the ugly side of adoptions.

Me, too, on the fascination with true-life crime stuff. Dr. G is my favorite, but I will watch anything on that channel. I used to have a real fascination reading books about serial killers, but I got over that. Now, I just teach them in my class, LOL!!

Off to read about the bra now... :)

my sweet friend, you bring a tear to my eye. I haven't had a mom for 13 years now and that is just way too long. I hope your Bmom wakes up and realizes what a gift she has waiting for her.
Happy Mother's Day to YOU...

I think it is wonderful that you sent your birth mother a Mother's Day card. Maybe it will be be the gesture that finally gets her to contact you.

If you love True Crime read John Grisham's non-fiction book An Innocent Man. It was a great story!
