Still busy today (working on a fun post for tomorrow) so I'm offering you another picture of me to mock. This was taken about 20 years ago at Pemaquid Light. It's a beautiful spot, not far from where I grew up, on the rocky coast of Maine. There's a lighthouse and amazing rock formations that you can climb on. I used to take a blanket, a book and a picnic lunch and spend the day. You could find these nooks, where a perfect smooth sitting spot had been carved out by millions of years of waves crashing, and just soak up the sun and the sound of surf and think, or read, or daydream. I loved it, and I took the kids there a lot when they were younger.
This is my firstborn. I remember how much fun it was to watch him discover all the things you could find there: driftwood, periwinkles, sand, smooth beach glass, hermit crabs and the whole ocean with its waves and lobster boats and catamarans. It was like seeing it all for the first time through his eyes. There's something really special about the ocean.
And, yes, that was a perm. A big one. I know, I know, but in my defense, it gets very humid on the coast. And it was the 80's.

A gorgeous memory and a beautiful picture, despite the perm (which I think looked adorable...)
This is exactly why we love the beaches at the ocean. Someday we'll take in the waters of Maine in lieu of Cape Cod, but only when global warming does it's magic on the water temp up there...
Still chuckling over this one!! :)

What a cute picture and the memory makes me think of our own little alcoves here in California where I took my little ones, ah precious memories...
and really the perm's not so bad, we can blame a lot on the eighties!
thats sweet, you both look happy. I grew up on the great lakes and I love water of any kind, ocean or fresh. I love beach combing and just sitting a tthe shore.
LOVE this post, M.E. Love the pic and the memories and everything!
wonderful pic maybe someday I will be brave enough to show my awful perm pics LOL
Oh yes - I was on that 80's perm bandwagon - absolutely fried my hair between that and the curling iron (and sometimes my forehead). Once the ends were so destroyed the hairdresser gathered everyone around me to look at my fried hair. Um - thanks Miss Soon-to-be-Ex-hairdresser!
what a cool place! I would love to see it. maybe someday.
I just love to sit and watch the ocean, I miss it.
Awww...look at the baby! Gosh, you had two cute little fellas! And, for the time, you were pretty spiffy-lookin' too!!! BWAHAHAHA! I had a perm, too, but it wasn't quite that big; a little mullet-y maybe, but not big. :)
Oh yeah, I had a perm in the 80's too.
That is a sweet picture.
This is the times when I look at pictures I take now and wonder when the kids are the age yours are now what will I think of myself.
Dear Lord, when I read the words Permaquid Light, I thought, "Holy COW, I wonder what the heavy perm looks like!!"
Sorry.
I have been to Pemaquid light before too! I loved it there.
I also had the perm thing in the 80s, oy!
The first thing I thought of when I saw the picture was...Look at you with all the curls! I had 'em too! I think just before my oldest daughter was born. After she was born, no perm, no matter what could curl these locks! (Now, the oldest has natural curls!)
You looked mahvalous dahling!
Cutsey kiddo too!
oh man, the 80's! I have a girlfriend who made me laugh hysterically as she is still trying to make her hair dresser keep height on her hair cut.. she looked at me and said - ya know, I'm an 80's chick. It dawned on me all at once - I STILL have to have height on MY hair - go figure. HUGGLES

So, I felt the need to come back and make sure you knew I was just joking.
I am the Travel Agent of Guilt Trips, including my own.
(I had a perm in the 80's that almost required its own zip code.)
