Drift Away - Friday Fragments

We’re back to a rainy weather pattern (gulp) and also back to Friday Fragments, the time and place to unload weird, funny or random thoughts that are occupying cranium space that you could be using to store better stuff. The originator of this fun-fest is Mrs. 4444 over at Half Past Kissin’ Time, who always has some crazy tidbits to say. You can also check out the winner of her Favorite Fragmenter Award.

* Thank you for all the wonderfully positive thoughts and prayers for my job interview. I interviewed with an employment agency, and it went really well. They said they were going to recommend me to the client, so the next step will be an interview with the company itself. I’m cautiously optimistic, I guess, but mostly I just try not to think about it. I also have another interview this afternoon, so at least it’s progress!

* I’ve been wondering about how the blog clock works, and I’m hoping somebody will clue me in. My blog posts never show the correct time, and the comments are all off, too. What is the time based on – the commenter’s time zone? the blog owner’s time zone? Blogger International’s time zone? Inquiring minds want to know. And don't get me started about scheduled post nightmares.
* My car is finally legal – I have a valid inspection sticker, so hopefully I’ve seen the last of the nice local police officer. And to those of you who suggested that he might be letting me off with a warning because he ‘liked’ me – I want you to know that he’s more likely feeling pity than attraction. He’s more Doogie Howser, P.D. – and he probably wouldn’t even get that reference. Those of you too young to get it, go ahead and google Doogie. I’m sure Wikipedia knows all about him.

* I didn’t end up dogsitting for my friend with the puppies – her event got cancelled at the last minute – so I don’t have cute pictures for you. I may get over there this weekend, so I’ll try to remember my camera so I can snap some shots of the fuzzy babies.

* On my way to pick Alex up yesterday, I noticed that as I drove toward the Canadian border, the percentage of people who have a disconnected plow in their front yard went up exponentially. I think at one point it was better than 75%. One guy had spray painted LET IT SNOW on the front of it. Clever idea, but he should have spaced it out better, because the letters got smaller and smaller as he ran out of room, and it detracted from his message.

* Alex’s girlfriend caught a ride with us to her cousin’s for a couple of days, and it was nice to see her. She and her mother live ‘off the grid’ in a town called “The Forks” – I know, weird, right? They have solar power and a generator, but no regular electricity, although they do have a regular telephone, and wifi. Ahh, the wilderness.

* I passed a sign that read “Dan & Scott’s Funeral and Cremation” – am I the only one that finds that funny? Honestly, doesn’t that sound like the guys that always threw the keg parties back in college? “Hey, let’s head over to Dan & Scott’s – they always have those big red plastic cups…” I’m not sure I could trust them to care for my loved ones’ final remains. Or, at least I couldn’t trust myself not to giggle the whole time. Hey, don't judge me. I'm under a lot of stress.

* Oh, and one last thing. Whichever spam agent has decided to repeatedly bombard me with emails that begin “Are you troubled by incontinence?” I want to ask them, didn’t your mother teach you any manners? I am NOT troubled by incontinence (except for the occasional sneezing/coughing/laughing incident), but if I was, don’t you think it would be a little impolite to keep bringing it up? Geez.

Dan & Scott's Funeral & Cremation? Oh my goodness. I have visions of a large BBQ grill in the backyard. And THAT'S as good as it gets. :)

I love this Friday Fragments thing. Now that I'm back in the blogging groove, I think I'm gonna have to check out how to get in on the action; it would be good to do something with all of the mishmash that circles around in my brain!

Have a great weekend!

1) Continued prayers for the job-getting process.

2) Looking forward to puppy pics

3) Dan & Scott's. I would really lose it if they had the red plastic cups in the funeral home reception area. Do your funeral homes have those too? A place for the mourners to gather and drink coffee, coke, or whatever, during the viewing. Red plastic cups. Heh, heh.

They don't have regular electricity but they do have wifi? I don't know why that tickles me.

I remember Doogie, and I was too old for him back then. Does that make you feel better?

Been praying all week for you with the job search. I'll keep on praying :)

If you DO start having issues with incontinence, I'm going to have you sit on the floor when you come visit! (easier clean up than leather)

Forks is the town in the Twilight series!

You can pick your timezone in your blogger settings. So check that.

P.S. Thank you for the sweet comment on my FF. I hope you'll come back and visit again!

thinking good thoughts for interviews and callbacks.

And the funeral home thing is funny as heck. When I visited my brother in Guatemala I got a big laugh out of all the funeral homes there that advertise themselves as being open 24/7...

I love Dan & Scott's Funeral and Cremation...

I hate to tell you Mary Ellen, butt the older one gets... the more they all look like Doogie's. LOL on that reference. Doogie was just a pup to me when that show came on t.v.

I rode by a business somewhere that was a combo locksmith, massage parlor and ice cream shoppe. (Yes, shoppe spelled like that....so sophisticated.)
It might have even been run by Dan & Scott! Don't remember where I saw it, but it def was in Maine.
Clever, these Mainiacs, no frills....just right to the point. (altho, 'shoppe' maybe is like a frill.)

I'm with you...I'm not so sure if Dan and Scott is where I would want to leave a family member's remains, too many memories of too many field parties!
Still praying for successful interview process!
Another fun post!

I agree - there is just something about that name that seems a bit off. Maybe it's the double first name. I think funeral homes should probably have more of a respectful, dignified sounding name. ;)

Dan & Scott's Funeral and Cremation...
It made me wonder how the conversation went while they were talking over beers about starting a business together....
"Hey Dan!", "Yes, Scott". "How about we bury people, and cremate them. People are always dying, we'd always have business" "Good idea Scott" "We could buy cases and cases of those red plastic cups...."
Don't say it, I know I am a sick puppy.
As far as the time thing goes, it all depends on how high the sunspots are flaring up when you hit your publish button. If you are west of the mean time zone and the sunspot flare-up is high, the time will be earlier than you thought you published and later than you thought, if the sunspots are lower and you are east of the mean time zone. Does that explain it all?

I don't know...there must have been something in the water at work today...

Good luck with the interviews. They are always stressful.

As for the incontinence email -- is that really how you want to deal with an issue like that, anyway? Via email? Ack.

As far as the time on blogger goes, have you tried going to Settings, then Formatting and then making sure that yours is set to your time zone? I don't know if it will work, but it's worth a shot.

I hope you have a fantastic interview!

Dan & Scott??? Yeah - doesnt sound too much like a "legit" funeral home... hmmm.....

aaahhh incontinence....the squirt when you cough syndrome! just got that fixed a couple months ago and let me tell you anyone gonna ask me if I have probs in that area the answer's a big ol hell no! and Thank God for good surgeons!!
:-)

hmmm, it'd be hard not to have regular electricity...but as long as there's wifi I guess I'd learn to quilt by kerosene lamp and cope okay!!

you have the ability in blogger to adjust that clock...it's in there somewhere what time zone you want posts/comments to show....go Doogie go!

Odette said...

OOOH good luck with the job still! It's exciting that you're getting somewhere!

I know Doogie I used to love that show and now I love him as Barney on How I met your Mother
- I am glad that you got your inspection over with and that your car passed. I hate those things!

Dan and Scott's hmmmm That's almost as bad as "Ryan and ODETTE's funeral home" Yes apparently I am a funeral home proprietor with my ex... bizzare.... Why could they all stick with names like "Graceful Willows" or "Tranquil Pines"? That is way less like a Kegger invite!

You didn't get to watch the puppies?? Wah!

Here's to good thoughts on the interview. :)

And the funeral home? That's just funny. As soon as you mentioned the red cup, I could just see one of those as an urn.

Cupcake Blonde said...

Good job vibes....sent. :)

I thought it was a rule funeral places had to make their names sound soothing and comforting. Not like two buddies ready to throw a kegger. I wouldn't want Dan and Scott taking care of my earthly remains. They may sniff me or leave me in the oven too long.

The time thing ticks me off. If I schedule a post 1:00 my time it doesn't post til like 3:00 but my time zone is set correctly to my location. I just gave up on figuring it out, lol

OKAY-as soon as younger daughter in LA wakes up, I will ask her about the name of the funeral home in NYS that is just too funny. Like Dan & Scott's Funeral & Cremation. You're exactly right about what it brings to mind!
Good luck on the job front-YAY! Interviews!!!
And thanks for your comment today-younger daughter seems to take it as an insult or something that I want her STUFF to live with HER...

That sounds like a movie...Dan & Scotts Funeral and Cremation. I can already see them losing bodies and burning down the crematoriam.
We are in a rainy, yucky pattern too. I'm so tired of it but at least the garden is growing well.

Nothing to do with your post, but I just stumbled onto your blog and am kind of hooked. We are adopting our little boy through foster care, and am grateful to have found a blog that is from the adoptee's point of view. Looking forward to looking through past posts!

Sneezing, coughing, laughing...I can relate! Grrr.

As for the time question, isn't there a place in your settings where you choose your timezone? Do you think that might be it?

Missed you at BlogHer this weekend--think you'll make it to NYC in 2010?!

knittergran said...

The funeral home in NYS is called, no joke, the Amigone funeral home.
My daughter thinks it's the name of the family who own the business.
