The Girl Can't Take It

Okay, the whole "no typing" thing has got to stop. Not blogging is not okay. And not commenting on everybody else's blogs is ESPECIALLY not okay. Who could have imagined that I could become addicted to this so quickly? Certainly not me (although I did see how addicted Miss Hallie had become, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised!)

Speaking of Hallie - thanks for guest-blogging for me! You're a true friend, but rest assured that I will do everything in my power NEVER to need your help in the powder room.

Thank you all for your well-wishes. You have no idea how much I appreciate you.

After some experimentation, I have found that, if I rest my arms carefully on the desk, and keep them in the correct position on the keyboard, that I can type with very little pain. Mousing, on the other hand, is a tad trickier. I tried to switch over to my left hand, but it turns out that I am so right-handed as to make any attempt at working a mouse left-handed absolutely laughable. At one point I had 15 windows open and I couldn't close any of them.

The good news is that after two days of AS-MUCH-INACTIVITY-AS-I-COULD-MANAGE, my arm is a teeny bit better. I think. So, to follow my doctor's train of thought, it might get better without further intervention. The bad news is I have to rest it some more, and all the stuff around here that needs to get done requires a right arm. Oh well, I'll figure it out. Time marches on, and I can deal with pain. I'm a W-O-M-A-N (sing it with me!)

UPDATE: The application forms for adult adoptees to request a copy of their original birth certificates finally came out yesterday (only a week after the ABSOLUTELY NO LATER THAN date that was promised!). They were posted to the State's website about 2:30 and all of a sudden it seemed like everybody was emailing everybody. I printed off the forms, and was surprised to find out that they need to be notarized. It also looks like they might have to be received at the State Office of Vital Records prior to January 2nd.

If that's true, I don't have a lot of time to mess around. Because of the holidays, there aren't many business days left between now and the second of January. I might drive them up there myself, or pay (how I hate to) for overnight mail. If I can find a notary public. I used to know several of them, but I can't think of one nearby. Maybe a bank. Wouldn't a bank need to have notaries on staff?

The whole thing is suddenly making me giggle. All.The.Time. I'm probably losing my mind, but it seems so funny to me. I spent years harassing the adoption agency, and petitioning the courts. Then, I spent years helping to fight for the laws to change. Then, after the law was finally passed, we waited a year and a half for it to take effect. Now, all of a sudden, I barely have time to get everything done by the deadline. Am I the only one who thinks that's hysterical?

Oh my god, I can hear your cackle from here. It's giving me chills.

I THOUGHT GETTING LAID OFF MEANT I WOULD NEVER HEAR THAT AGAIN!!!!

Seriously, though, keep telling yourself: It's almost over...It's almost over

(well, this stage anyway)

Mary Ellen, sorry to hear about your injury. I tore a triceps one winter skiing, and it was so frustrating how long (months) it took to heal. Physical therapy helped. As much as I enjoy your comments and blog, don’t injure yourself worse. Banks usually have notaries. How exciting that you might get some news in the new year. Good luck!

Banks, insurance companies and law offices for notary publics. Good luck!

Hang in there with the arm!

So glad you found a way to 'blog.' The addiction happens very quickly...I can't even remember now a time when I wasn't checking in on everyone or ranting about my own problems. Gotta love the blog Gods.
I got tingles reading the second part...I am so excited for you. Best wishes for the speedy recovery and the notary....

Kinkos has notaries and you can overnight them right from there.

So sorry to hear of your injury. I guess you didn't do your warm up exercises before blogging. tsk tsk tsk

Get better soon!

Okay, so I am a little, oh heck let me get real here...a lot computer illiterate, and I tried to add your blog to blogs I follow, and well, I froze my computer. So I will keep trying, but I don't know how it will go. I just wanted to let you know I got your comment, and I am so very sorry for complaining about the just under 40 degree weather I have been experiencing here in "sunny" California. Ummm, it seems that you have me pegged for the coldest place in the US. And I am sorry, but I cannot come and visit you, it's just too cold there.
I really hope that your arm is doing better. Being still and doing nothing is not in my bag of tricks either, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do to get better!
I hope we all get good news from you on the parent paperwork. How exciting!
Happy Holidays to you!

Glad you are feeling a bit better, but keep resting. We want you in top form and no pain. :)

Notaries can usually be found at banks, town halls and some lawyers offices (although they may require a larger payment) Also I was surprised to discover there was one at my local UPS store when I witnessed someone getting something notoraized while I waited in line to mail my Christmas packages.

It is so exciting to read about you rounding the bend towards the finish line of this great journey. And just think, with your birth certificate in hand it is only the new beginning. :)

It is ironic, but hang in there, and don't worry about the addiction. After a while you relax and blogging doesn't consume your existence.

I haven't followed your whole story about an adult adoption, so I'm not sure how to comment on that, but I did want to say that I hope your arm gets better soon and that you are able to give it as much rest as you need.
Thank you for your sweet comment on my blog yesterday! I do hope you learn to tat! (after your arm heals, of course)

Sorry about the hurt arm and trying to blog. Glad you found a position that is more comfortable for you to type in. More than I would do with a hurt arm. I don't have a hurt arm and I haven't blogged all week; so much more to do.

Banks should have notaries on staff. Hope you got what you need done and can get the papers filed on time.
