I'm Ready! Let's Celebrate!

I'm officially ready. No, not for Christmas (although I'm pretty close). I'm ready to get my birth certificate. Yesterday I got my application form notarized, and made copies of everything, just in case I need them. I have everything in my sturdy folder, and I'm ready to go. Now I just have to wait NINE more days. I can do this.

I also got some great news. Catherine, one of the women who helps run the organization (OBCforME) who fought so hard and long to get the law changed so that adult adoptees could have access to their original birth certificates commented on my blog yesterday. I have no idea how she found it, but I'm so grateful to her. Her comment was:

You WILL get a copy of your original birth certificate next Friday. I spoke with the Vital Records office yesterday, and they have found every single one of the OBCs of the pre-registered people. So if you pre-registered, they already have it in hand, and are waiting for you to show up at 8 am on 01/02/09.
.
Catherine is one of those people who really put their time and effort into things they believe in, and she believes in this. I don't know her very well personally, but - through the support group - I've come to admire her very much. Thanks, Cathy. You made my day. I think I'm beginning to dare to believe that this will happen.
.
Thank you to all of you who have been so wonderful to me as I have poured out all my emotions here on this blog. I can't tell you how much I appreciate you. I know the road ahead may be a bit bumpy, but it helps to know I have friends along the way.

I know we'll probably all be a bit busy for a few days, so I'll take this opportunity to
wish a
Merry Christmas to you and yours!

Awww, ME, I can't even tell you how excited I am for you! Merry Christmas, in a whole different way. Thank heavens for people like Cathy, huh?

Speaking for myself--as well as lots of others, I am sure--all set to embark on the rest of the journey. Sure, it's gonna be tough at times...but everything is. And you have people, so you can get through it all. Gosh, I'm so glad you're finally here in the blogosphere!

Have a good holiday...you and the rest of your family...and I'll talk to you in a couple of days!

I don't know how you will stand the wait between now and then.

I wish for you all your questions answered and your long quest be finally over. Somehow I can't think of your getting your birth certificate as an ending to a journey, but the beginning of a whole new time of your life.

All the best for Christmas and 2009.

Helen

Wow! That's exciting! I'm happy for you. That said, I am curious, and I don't mean to be rude by asking, but I would like to understand more about this law. Does it mean that birth parents don't have a right to privacy? What if they don't want to be found? I have no frame of reference at all for adoption searches. Will you please explain or point me to a post that does? Thanks.

That is awesome news! At least they are expecting you so hopefully their will be no hang-ups with anything and it will go smoothly.
