Quick and Dirty, so to speak

It just dawned on me that Christmas is 10 days from now. Never mind. I KNOW. Anyway, I got my house ready for the holiday over the weekend, but the gift-shopping? Not so much. So I spent most of yesterday and plan to spend most of today taking care of that little detail. Unfortunately, that leaves me with little time to blog, so I'm going to just throw out a random post to make it look like I blogged (see how sneaky I am?)

I visited LL Bean yesterday to get THE BIG GIFT for my kids. I can't say what it is, but they will be very happy. Finding parking at LL Bean in downtown Freeport 10 days before Christmas was just as much fun as you might think. I was a tad cranky after I jogged 16 miles from my car to the store, but when I got there, I was greeted by the largest gingerbread structure I had ever seen. This display was HUGE, and I took a picture with my cell phone so I could share it with you. Thanks to Hallie, for helping me get the picture off my phone and into my blog. Someday, perhaps you could share the secrets of the mysteriouscellphone with me. You can even call me grasshopper if you want. You might be too young to get that joke, though. Sigh.

Isn't this amazing? The lighthouse was maybe 6 feet tall. I was quite impressed and walked away wondering how many calories there would be in a behemoth gingerbread structure.

You have to love that company. Not only did they have the resources to build this magnificent, edible masterpiece, they also had plenty of time to completely rearrange the store so that every single department was in a different place than it was last time I was there. That made it even more exciting to shop. I love holiday adventures.

I just love it when they rearrange the store just before I'm going to be shopping there...
Don't know what to say about the gingerbread but wow...I wonder how long it took to put that together ;)

You may be 10 YEARS OLDER THAN ME but I DO get the grasshopper reference.

Now, go wax on, wax off and I MIGHT, just MIGHT, teach you how to work your cell phone!!

Hey, I wonder, do they heat that with propane, wood, or oil?

And also, I don't think the egress windows meet state standards.

Egret window? They built a lighthouse with a window specifically for a bird?

How cool!!

well, you shopped and accomplished SOMETHING... I went to the post office where my 17 yr old showed her ass because of the long lines then left there and went dumpster diving for boxes with the son and his GF so they can pack up and get moved before the 30th. I did cook a bit of dinner last night in the mumbo jumbo of dealing with mom...and I did do two loads of laundry... what a MONDAY!
the gingerbread point on the coast is wonderful! I love lighthouses... and maybe Hallie would teach me an easier softer way to get photos off my cellphone...its a royal pain in the butt and I have a 2 gig memory card with God only knows how many photos on it!
Happy Tuesday! 9 more days of insanity and I have BOUGHT NOTHING... Dear hubby had a list in hand after telling me how much he wanted or needs nothing... FIBBER...I dont see me shopping today either LOL... maybe tomorrow....or the next day...

Talk about psychic store displayers. They knew you were coming so they decided to make you cover every inch of the store to find what you came for...

As to the mysteriouscellphoneworld, grasshopper (one of my favorite shows back in the day), I'm just a cricket so I can't help you. Anything I manage to do on mine is totally an accident. My brother called me one day and asked if I was trying to text him. I said no... I'd been running errands and, besides, I had no idea how to do it. We figured out that I had the cell on my hip and my seat belt was hitting different buttons on the cell and sending weird messages to him. I had to find a 12 year old to show me how to lock the phone...

That is very - um, large. I love the detail however, and wondered to myself - how much did they pay someone to put that together? And did they have to lay anyone off to pay the bill? hehehe

I love love lurve when stores "rearrange" for the holidays. Um yeah, not so convenient!

Hope you succeeded in finishing! I still have two people left - but I will stall until right before Christmas. Why ruin a tradition?

My daughter would love that! Which, reminds me, I need to go buy a couple gingerbread houses for them to assemble!

I have never been to an LL bean store, I guess I just thought they were an online business. I need to get out more.
I think stores rearrange so we will run around and maybe accidentally buy things we didn't mean to.

It seems you have been able to find pleasure in the random inconveninces of Xmas shopping. Looks like you could work for the pentagon!

Thanks for your comments on my blog. "Protocol" was a better education in international realtions than "Ishtar" was.

I would love to live near LLBean. I'm a night-person, and I've said many times that if I lived near that store, I would shop at all sorts of random hours. Providing they are still open 24 hours a day, that is....

ME..I've only been to the LL Bean in Freeport once and was totally amazed! Cool place to buy gifts for the kids, can't wait to read what they got!

One time I tried to make a ginger bread house, before I was willing to admit to myself my utter lack of "craftiness" "skill" or "ability to use my hands". Let's just say it didn't come out quite as nicely as the one in the photograph. It didn't "stand upright" or "look like a house". But it was made of ginger bread and frosting....

God, I love Bean's. I have never attempted the day shopping there though. Don't think I have the patience. I just go at 3 am to save everyone there my wrath.

Aww L.L. Bean's! I haven't been there in SO long! I miss it. I remember fondly we would all pack in the car and drive up there once a year to wander the store. Many times I would never buy anything but would have tons of fun.

I get the grasshopper reference too and I am not real old, under 30.

Hope you got all you were shopping for. I've never been to an LL Bean store; didn't know they actually had freestanding stores. I will have to find the closest one to me. :)

That is a very large gingerbread house/structure. I would guess there would be about a bajillion calories in it. Would be neat if it was real gingerbread and you could take a piece home after the holiday.

Gingerbread house is so cool! I just had to show it to my family! LL Bean was well represented here today! Hope your boys loved your mystery gift and you had a great day!
